My Tasting Rating (0-10): 7
A singularly fine dinner! All wines very good and Pinot Noir just seems to go with salmon, Copper River or otherwise.
Notes:
General comment: All the wines were very good although one could tell the youngsters needed some age. The Byron was a very good pinot, but it was in the company of giants. SAD NEWS: Maggie's last day will be next Wed. eve. (7 June). She is going to Spaghettini on Fri. and Sat. eve.
The Mueller was clearly a favorite, especially in combination with the Copper River salmon. Even though it was very young, it had a big fruity nose and fill-your-mouth acids and tannins. Lots of oak, but in balance with the abundant fruit. Drinkable now, but should be good for up to 10 yrs.
The 98 Rochioli had a beautiful nose, but was very young on the palate. Angular and un-integrated flavors that clearly will come together in about 5 to 10 yrs.
OTOH, the 95 Rochioli had a very closed nose but covered the palate beautifully. The bouquet was red roses in a bucket of dried manure. Most burgundy-ish.
