Notes:  A wonderful tasting.  Dan sicked out and Cathy couldn't bunkle (sp? you can ask her) so she joined us.  This first visit to the Malvasia was a howling success.  My Rack of Venison was excellent and went well with the red wines.  The mild gamey flavor of venison went perfectly with both sangioveses.  I kept thinking of pre-Renaissance Italian art depicting wild game hunts and the barbaric feasts that followed.

Wellington is one of the most unusual wines ever made available to the public.  It has all the characteristics of a really fine cab, but it is not cab and it does not have any particular pedigree.  It's just great wine!  As soon as it was poured next to the Venge sangiovese, you could see the Wellington had an inky deep purple extraction that you knew just had to taste good.  Bouquet of black fruits like blackberries, blueberries with subtle undertones of oak.  Great finish, long and lingering.  Should be ageable for at least another 3 yrs.

Venge sangiovese is always a fruit bomb that shows off red fruit flavors and a great nose.  This is usually a spaghetti varietal, but it has the structure and depth for anything.  Label is black on blue and almost illegible.  Don't know if this will age well or not.

Cambria syrah was the most controversial wine.  It had a sweaty-horse nose that many people did not like.  Very strange for a syrah.  I liked it.  Ullage test showed not many others cared for it at all.  Had to leave SOMETHING for the dishwashers.

L.A. Cetto nebbiolo was very good!  Couldn't believe it was a 13 yr old nebbiolo.  Still had very nice fruit.  For a nebbiolo this old, I expect a senile old fart who doesn't know where his pants are.
